2006 Mercedes-Benz SL Class Owner's Manual

The DISTRONIC system for maintaining a safe distance, relying on the operation of its sensors hidden in the radiator grill, is able to maintain a predetermined distance to the vehicle in front in a fully automatic mode and strictly control the predetermined speed. When a Mercedes-Benz SL-Class with DISTRONIC activated approaches another vehicle, the system will automatically slow down or tactfully apply the brakes to maintain the set interval. As soon as the distance to the nearest vehicle increases or the road becomes clear again, the DISTRONIC system will start working like a traditional cruise control, maintaining the speed set between 30 and 180 km/h. If the system decides that it is necessary to slow down the car more, it will sound an audible signal and turn on a warning indicator on the instrument cluster.

The innovative convertible roof of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class creates a feeling of peace and security in its interior, which hardly any other car in its class can boast. When raised, it protects the driver and passenger not only from wind and bad weather, but also from noise and all sorts of dangers.
