Car critics tend to favor traditional station wagons over crossovers, but the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class three-row makes drivers actually play the role of “devil’s advocate. Well, the GL350 Bluetec with the diesel engine is rated at a healthy 22 miles per gallon combined (with a figure of 26 miles per gallon on the highway), though the available turbocharged gasoline V8 will tempt you with its surprisingly quick acceleration. With the GL, you also get powerful towing power: 7,500 pounds with the right equipment.
