Mercedes-Benz G-Class Owner's Manuals

(Mercedes-Benz G-Class) is an all-wheel drive SUV of the K3 class. A restyled version of the W463 model was presented at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2018.

Well, as expected in principle, no revolution in terms of the design of the G-Class happened. The Mercedes did not take risks and experiment with the appearance, beloved by many warriors. On the contrary, in order to preserve the image of the model, it was decided to leave the former factory index W463, and with it square shapes, rough door handles, external door and hood hinges, a spare wheel cover and even the characteristic rough sound of door locks. But, despite the strong external resemblance to the previous model, they have only three things in common: door handles, a spare tire on the tailgate and headlight washer nozzles.

The restyled “Gelik” picked up a little in size, but it would be more correct to say that he managed to pump up. It has become 121 mm wider and 53 mm longer and now visually the width of the car exceeds the height, which means that calling it a “square” or “cube” is no longer entirely correct. The all-new body of the G-Class is still made of steel, but the doors, fenders and bonnet are now aluminum, saving 170 kg in weight. The torsional rigidity has also increased from 6537 to 10162 Nm / deg. Mercedes seriously got confused with the fitting of parts, gaps and gaps between them can not be found now.

“Garage” fans of restyling will now not have to be easy, because it is now easier to distinguish between different generations of the model: the windshield is without seals, the door corners are rounded, the rear-view side mirrors have been changed, the gas tank hatch has been moved under the right rear window. But the regrown nose of the front overhang, with beveled corners for the sake of protecting pedestrians, makes the G-Class, in truth, less brutal and aggressive. Now he looks more like a big bullmastiff that can easily bite off your head, but at the same time the look will be very friendly and calm.

Inside, of course, there was a real revolution. Now behind the wheel of the “Gelika” you can feel like in the S-Class. Everything has changed, except for the wide handle on the passenger side and the branded three buttons for the Gelika, which are responsible for the operation of the differential locks. The gear selector has migrated to the steering column, which made it possible to place a full-fledged Command system console in the center along with an armrest box and two cup holders. There are also various system control buttons. Thanks to the body width increased by 12 cm, the car now has more space, which will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the space in the cabin. For front passengers, comfortable armrests appeared in the door cards and an increased number of seat settings, which, in addition to heating, are also equipped with a massage and ventilation function. In the top trim levels, the car offers softer leather, two 12.3-inch screens, multi-contour seats, three-zone climate control and a 16-speaker Burmester audio system. By the way, an interesting fact is that the speakers on the front panel completely repeat the shape of the turn signals located on the hood of the car. In the configurations, there will be simpler classic pointer devices, an audio system for 6 speakers, and, of course, less than other goodies.

The body itself is still mounted on the frame, and it is also completely new. This time around, the tuning and development of the chassis was handled entirely by the AMG division. For the first time, the G-Class has an independent front suspension instead of an axle, an electric power steering rack instead of a worm gear and a razdatka, aggregated along with the “automatic”. The rear axle remained continuous, but became symmetrical, and in its suspension – a new scheme of four levers and Panhard rods with a different arrangement of springs and shock absorbers. The car still has a mechanical center differential, which now divides the moment 40 to the front and 60 to the rear axle. The central differential lock is controlled by an electronic clutch with a forced closing function.

The ground clearance of the SUV has grown to 270 mm, and the fording height is now 70 cm.

Under the hood, only a 4.0-liter V8 is available in two versions G500 and G63. In the G500 version, the engine develops 422 hp. and is capable of accelerating 0-100 in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h. But in the G63, the engine produces 585 hp. and 850 Nm and is able to rush the “brick” to the first hundred in a matter of 4.5 seconds! and the top speed is now limited to 220 km/h but for those who don’t think that’s enough, Mercedes can offer the AMG Drivers Package and then the top speed will be 240 km/h. The 7-speed “automatic” was also replaced by the Mercedes 9 G-Tronic.

The handling and comfort of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class will no longer be reminiscent of its military roots, the car will feel almost like a passenger car. There will be various driving settings to choose from, such as Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual or a separate G-Mode, which adapts the suspension, accelerator and “automatic” to off-road driving.
